Moments Worth Sharing at TEDxSydney
World-first mobile app puts Sydney ideas festival in your pocket
Sydney, Wednesday, 9 April 2014: TEDxSydney today announced the launch of a what is believed to be world first mobile application which uses real-time video tagging to help TEDx fans save and share their favorite moments. The companion app, created by digital development company Vivant, is designed to give TED fans the ability to capture moments of inspiration from the TEDxSydney program and create a personalised record of the day.
The app has been created as the perfect companion to the full day of talks and incorporates a simple mechanism that allows users to tag moments from the live talks in real time. Users can add notes and share these tagged moments via social media. An additional feature for members of the TEDxSydney community allows them to access their profiles and connect with people at the live event.
Remo Giuffré, TEDxSydney Director and Licensee said: “TEDxSydney is all about spreading great ideas. Given the theatrical dynamics of what’s happening on stage at the live event, we wanted to create a mobile app that would complement, and not distract from the speaker experience on the day.
“The app enhances the live experience for the 2,300 attendees at the Sydney Opera House event as well as the tens of thousands of viewers from around the world who stream talks on the day or attend a satellite event.”
Euan Wilcox, Managing Director, Vivant Media said: “Our approach is all about putting the users at the heart of the development process, so we spent a lot of time working directly with the TEDxSydney community to determine what people want from a mobile experience. The greatest desire was to capture those magic moments from the talks and performances, to be able to tag these ideas and relive them after the event.
“We’ve created an app that does this in a very simple way, and have cut out features that would cloud or distract from the core function. The result is a simple and elegant mobile experience to add depth to TEDxSydney, a way for people to collect, relive and share those moments with their friends and followers.”
Vivant is a human-centric design company. The Vivant team were behind the successful mobile experiences: Commbank Kaching and RP Data’s RP Lister app. The TEDxSydney app is free and can be used by viewers at home and at live satellite events as well as by attendees at the Opera House on the day.
TEDxSydney takes place on Saturday 26 April 2014 at the Sydney Opera House.

About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.
About TED: TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in North America (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in another part of the world. 2014 will be held in Rio de Janeiro.
