ingogo put money where their app is and guarantee advanced bookings

by launch-admin May 30, 2014 0 Uncategorized

MEDIA RELEASE * ingogo launches Melbourne presence with new feature * Calling for people to take on the ingogo $10 challenge Monday 5th May, 2014: Taxi app and mobile payment provider, ingogo, is calling upon Australians to take the ‘ingogo challenge’ and use the app’s new Future Booking feature, which guarantees passengers a $10 credit if their advanced booking is cancelled and a replacement taxi cannot be appointed. The new feature, which is available to users across Sydney and Melbourne, allows passengers to book trips up to 48 hours in advance. It incentivises drivers to pick up cancelled bookings as it deducts $10 from the driver who cancelled the booking and then provides it to the next driver as a cash bonus. The bonus is increased by another $10 for any additional cancellations until the booking is completed. In the situation where ingogo cannot find a replacement taxi, a $10 credit will be returned to the passenger. ingogo, which also today launched its services in Victoria, is the only taxi app on the market to offer a guarantee for advanced bookings. ingogo is the first app to make future bookings available on the Android platform. They are also the only taxi app that provides a payment system with wireless terminals inside taxis, as well as a booking system. ingogo tested the new feature with a beta trial over one month with 500 passengers. When comparing the results of this group’s app activity before the feature to after, ingogo saw a 58% increase in the number of completed jobs. There was also a significant reduction (23%) of job cancellations by drivers, plus over $100,000 of trip payments processed from the pilot. Founder of ingogo, Hamish Petrie, said the new initiative has been launched as part of their disruption and cause for change within Australia’s taxi industry. “We understand how frustrating it can be for passengers to have drivers not turn up, especially for airport and business travel, so we wanted to put a stop to it and set a high service standard that would create more work for drivers and in turn improve the taxi industry.” he said. “We want to take as many steps as we can to ensure customers are never left waiting and we are confident that our app and Future Booking technology will guarantee this for passengers. So much so, that we are prepared to do something that no one else on the market is doing, and that is to offer passengers a $10 guarantee that once a driver has accepted their Future Booking job a taxi will turn up. Full stop. We are now calling on Aussies to download our app and test out our promise for themselves.” Mr Petrie added that he anticipated the service promise would shake-up the market in Melbourne, as they have been doing in Sydney. “Dominant payment players in Victoria, such as GM Cabs and Live Payments, have already tried to push us out of the market – we’ve received legal threats and had an attempted smear campaign against us, but it’s only fuelled us to work harder. This new offering aims to further disrupt the taxi incumbents. None of the existing networks including Cabcharge who own: 13 Cabs / Black Cabs as well as Silver Top, currently offer any guarantee to passengers once their job is accepted.” ingogo began recruiting for drivers in Melbourne at the start of 2014. They now have over 500 taxi drivers signed up to the ingogo system, with hundreds more joining the platform every month. “We’re incredibly excited by the initial response to the app, and look forward to Melbourne passengers helping us grow our network even further with our new ingogo challenge,” he said. The new future booking feature allows users to watch how far away their driver is on a GPS map and can call or private message their driver directly, bypassing the networks. The feature also sends push notifications to remind both the driver and passenger of the booking, as well as an email to users to let them know the booking has been accepted. ingogo is inviting Sydney users who travel inter-state, to now use the app in Melbourne, including at Melbourne airport using the pre-booked taxi bays. The launch of the feature comes as both Victoria and New South Wales begin to introduce reforms that will support the growth of taxi apps in Australia as well as improve safety standards. The app can be downloaded in iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/ingogo/id463995190?mt=8 Or the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ingogo.passenger -Ends- Media Contacts Laura Douglas laura@launchgroup.com.au> laura@launchgroup.com.au 02 94292 1002 or 0452 505 859 Sarah Tsiros sarah@launchgroup.com.au> sarah@launchgroup.com.au 02 9492 1034 or 0466 805 364 About ingogo: ingogo is a mobile app which assists customers to easily hail and pay for taxis. It was founded by the successful team behind Moshtix. It allows passengers to communicate directly with registered taxi drivers in their local area, see when drivers are coming and where they are on a map, with the option to pay for rides using ingogo’s safe in-taxi payment terminals or virtual mobile accounts. It currently operates in Sydney and Melbourne.

Australia¹s strongest residential performers over last quarter

by launch-admin May 30, 2014 0 Uncategorized

Media Release Australia, 29 May 2014: New research released today, by Onthehouse¹s property data arm Residex, revealed the Australian suburbs that have seen the largest capital growth over the last quarter for both houses and units nationally. Sydney suburbs dominate the top 10 list for capital growth when it comes to houses, with values for Beaumont Hills increasing by more than 13% in the three months to April this year making it Australia¹s fastest growing suburb. Eastwood and West Pennant Hills followed closely behind with capital growth rates over 12%. Alphington in Melbourne, with a growth rate of 8.65%, was the only suburb outside of New South Wales to rank in the top 10 for houses. We have not seen this high level of quarterly growth since September 1988, when Sydney saw its last large property price boom. ³While the strong growth rates are good news for property owners, if growth continues on its current upward path there could potentially be some problems in the medium-term as interest rates are likely to increase.² For units, the Sydney market again dominated the list, featuring seven of the top 10 suburbs. The Sydney suburbs of Wollstonecraft, Milsons Point and Plumpton recorded the highest growth in the last quarter, with their median values each increasing by better than 7%. Dr Katrina Warren launches Australia’s first online pet channel

by launch-admin Apr 14, 2014 0 Uncategorized

MEDIA RELEASE

New online community aims to educate and entertain animal lovers

Sydney, 10th April 2014 – Celebrity vet Dr. Katrina Warren today launched Australia’s first online pet channel in collaboration with Boom Video, Australia and New Zealand’s YouTube partner network

The new channel can be viewed on Dr. Katrina’s YouTube channels and will showcase new content created for the 63% of Australian households that own pets[1]. It is the first original Australian online channel to be produced by Boom Video, Australia’s leading online influencer network, and will simulcast three times a week on YouTube: www.youtube.com/drkatrina.

Boom will be assisting Dr. Katrina in the creation, production and content sharing for the new channel, which provides expert knowledge for pet owners and will also feature the famous Wonderdogs. The channel will see Dr. Katrina share her extensive knowledge and understanding of animals, to help people navigate the ins and outs of owning a pet.

New partners for the pet channel include KONG pet toys.

Dr. Katrina said that the new online format would allow her to reach out to far more people than a traditional TV show – and would help create a real Australian community for animal owners.

“There are over 33 million pets in Australia, but there is a real lack of resources focused on genuinely improving animal welfare by giving their owners the day-to-day advice they need,” she said. “The show will be a mix of useful tips, insight into the issues facing pets and their owners, and some entertaining videos featuring the Wonderdogs.

“The beauty of today’s online world is not only that there is free access to information right from your living room or backyard, but we can create a real community for pet owners and animal lovers across Australia. By tuning in, viewers will be able to learn the secrets to successfully training and caring for their pets. With love, patience and a few minutes a day people can enrich the bond they share with their own pet.”

Spiro Pissas, Commercial Director for Boom, said that the Dr Katrina Pet Channel was a watershed moment for online entertainment in Australia.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Dr. Katrina on what is a transformational media project. The Dr Katrina Pet Channel is being specially crafted to reach people across a number of social platforms, and with a serious lack of Australian online pet entertainment we believe it can ultimately transform the way the industry delivers information to pet owners.

“As online video continues to explode as a medium, especially for younger generations, we hope to deliver important information to viewers and we are looking forward to the journey with Dr. Katrina now setting the online world alight, as she has already done with TV.”

Every week Dr. Katrina will post three videos, including pet care advice, teaching tricks and providing training techniques that range from easy to advanced, in a way that viewers can use at home.

Onthehouse reveals top inner ring city suburbs predicted to grow over next five years

Australia 14 April 2014: New research released today from Onthehouse’s property data arm Residex, reveals Australia’s top suburbs for residential property investment, based on their latest predictions data.

Although property market growth is expected to stabilise in 2014, the data shows that some inner ring suburbs still offer strong investment potential.

John Edwards, consulting analyst for Onthehouse and founder of Residex, commented: “We are expecting to see Sydney and Melbourne’s growth rates slowdown in the next six months and in other national markets next year. Although inner ring areas often fall into the least affordable class compared to their suburban neighbours, the data indicates there are still opportunities for savvy investors, in the right suburbs.”

The findings show that every capital city has inner ring areas that offer strong opportunities for investors. Sydney’s Bellevue Hill, Melbourne’s Malvern, Brisbane’s Bulimba and Perth’s City Beach all feature prominently in the national top 10 for predicted growth – with annual average rates of growth over the next five years of better than 8%.

Mr Edwards commented: “From a national perspective, I’m expecting to see commentary from the RBA later this year that will affect consumer sentiment and again moderate growth. This will mean changes in the recent strong national growth trends. Property investors will need to be cautious about which suburbs they invest in – particularly in inner city areas, which will deliver a very mixed range of returns.

“Stable growth never occurs in a linear way. Overall, we expect to see a fall in growth by the end of the year, followed by two to three years of minimal to zero growth. Then by 2018, we are expecting to see a return to strong growth rates.”

Units are predicted to deliver lower returns than houses, with the top inner ring suburbs returning an average of 4 to 8%growth per annum over the next five years. Melbourne dominates the national top five – with Elwood, St Kilda, Richmond and Rhodes. While units in Sydney’s North Bondi, Perth’s Subiaco and Brisbane’s West End are predicted to deliver the top inner ring growth results in their respective cities.

Mr Edwards, added: “Melbourne is defying past predictions. My feeling is that there is an oversupply of property, especially units, but demand is currently being propped up by three main factors: property developers are managing their units well; international buyers are supporting new unit sales; and higher public confidence is being driven by factors like good clearance rates at auction.

“Anybody buying property over the next 12 months needs to be aware of the growth patterns, now more than ever it is important to do solid research around the market to back up your decisions with data and insight.”

Moments Worth Sharing at TEDxSydney

World-first mobile app puts Sydney ideas festival in your pocket

Sydney, Wednesday, 9 April 2014: TEDxSydney today announced the launch of a what is believed to be world first mobile application which uses real-time video tagging to help TEDx fans save and share their favorite moments. The companion app, created by digital development company Vivant, is designed to give TED fans the ability to capture moments of inspiration from the TEDxSydney program and create a personalised record of the day.

The app has been created as the perfect companion to the full day of talks and incorporates a simple mechanism that allows users to tag moments from the live talks in real time. Users can add notes and share these tagged moments via social media. An additional feature for members of the TEDxSydney community allows them to access their profiles and connect with people at the live event.

Remo Giuffré, TEDxSydney Director and Licensee said: “TEDxSydney is all about spreading great ideas.  Given the theatrical dynamics of what’s happening on stage at the live event, we wanted to create a mobile app that would complement, and not distract from the speaker experience on the day.

“The app enhances the live experience for the 2,300 attendees at the Sydney Opera House event as well as the tens of thousands of viewers from around the world who stream talks on the day or attend a satellite event.”

Euan Wilcox, Managing Director, Vivant Media said: “Our approach is all about putting the users at the heart of the development process, so we spent a lot of time working directly with the TEDxSydney community to determine what people want from a mobile experience. The greatest desire was to capture those magic moments from the talks and performances, to be able to tag these ideas and relive them after the event.

“We’ve created an app that does this in a very simple way, and have cut out features that would cloud or distract from the core function. The result is a simple and elegant mobile experience to add depth to TEDxSydney, a way for people to collect, relive and share those moments with their friends and followers.”

Vivant is a human-centric design company. The Vivant team were behind the successful mobile experiences: Commbank Kaching and RP Data’s RP Lister app. The TEDxSydney app is free and can be used by viewers at home and at live satellite events as well as by attendees at the Opera House on the day.

TEDxSYDNEY EXPANDS TO THE EDGES OF AUSTRALIA WITH SATELLITE PROGRAM

MEDIA RELEASE

TEDxSYDNEY EXPANDS TO THE EDGES OF AUSTRALIA

TEDxSydney 2014 invites Aussies to host satellite events on 26 April

Sydney – Wednesday, 12 March 2014: Annual ideas festival, TEDxSydney, is aiming to bring Australian ideas to an audience of over 10,000 people across remote Australia via its unique, satellite event program. The program allows fans to tune into the full day of inspiring talks and performances on 26 April, live and for free, by registering a venue on the TEDxSydney map.

TEDxSydney launched the satellite program in 2013. Last year it saw 8,000 people around Australia and the world setting up open or private events in their home, workplace or in public venues to participate in the day’s activities. Live online streaming for this year’s event will be available nationally and worldwide on: ABC Big Ideas, YouTube and Livestream.com.

Satellite Events Coordinator, Josh Stinton, said the program for 2014 was focusing on bringing the TEDxSydney experience to rural and regional communities and capital cities all across Australia to help expand the TEDxSydney community.

“Last year’s program was a huge success with over 45 satellite events held across the globe,” he said. “This year, with our growing satellite event offering, we’re looking to further increase TEDxSydney’s reach from the east to the west coast and all communities in between!”

Satellite events already lined up for the 2014 festival include Surfers Paradise, Newport, Sydney Darwin, and the Blue Mountains – with more added daily.

Each satellite event organiser is assisted in not just creating their own event – but their own unique experience to address their audience in the most meaningful way. Suggested ideas include having a dedicated Master of Ceremonies to facilitate discussions with their attendees, hosting their own speaker panels, performances, or simply watching the talks and discussions in real time.

The programming will blend talks with interspersed performances as well as artistic video segments. For the full speaker line-up see: http://tedxsydney.com/site/speakers.cfm

Anyone can be part of the online conversation and the Twitter hashtags for the day are #TEDxSydney and #TEDxSydSat.

As investors ramp up activity, is Australia becoming a nation of renters?

by launch-admin Mar 5, 2014 0 Uncategorized

Media Release

  • First homebuyers being pushed out of the market by investors
  • Huge differences in affordability in Sydney & Melbourne compared to other capital cities
  • Strength of rental market creating opportunities for astute landlords

Wednesday 26 Feb 2014 – Australia’s property market continues to see strong growth but first home buyers are increasingly being left behind. In Sydney and Melbourne, the cost of renting is in fact less than paying off a mortgage, according to the latest analysis from Onthehouse’s property research arm, Residex.

According to the latest data, the number of first time buyers hit historical lows in December 2013, to just 7% in New South Wales, 12% in Victoria, and 12% in Queensland.

Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics, Category 5609.0 – Housing Finance, Australia, December 2013

The national median value of houses and units increased in 2013 by 5.25% and 6.4% respectively. With prices going up and with affordability falling across the country, the value of loans to investors increased by 2.3% in the final quarter of 2013.

John Edwards, Consulting Analyst for Onthehouse.com.au and Founder of Residex, commented: “Investors are currently taking advantage of low interest rates, particularly older generations who are now investing in property through their self-managed super funds. People are now structuring their super fund investments in such a way that allows a form of negative gearing in residential property, allowing monthly super fund contributions from their salary to cover any rental income shortfall.

“As a result, younger buyers and those looking to buy a first home are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to purchase property, especially in Sydney and Melbourne, and are therefore having to rent.

“For landlords and investors, this essentially means a bigger pool of renters – giving an added incentive to purchase residential property.”

In regards to affordability, the proportion of income necessary for renting or buying means that for many, it costs less to rent than buy.  In Sydney, buyers can expect to pay 39.39% more per month on loan repayments on a median-valued house than it would cost to rent, while in Melbourne it is 50.72% higher. The difference is far less in other capital cities.

Mr Edwards said that, although prospective younger buyers can see the cost benefits with the short term gain of renting versus buying, it should not act as a deterrent from purchasing a property.

“Though it can be more affordable to rent for some, people shouldn’t be put off on buying property because of this. We need to keep in mind that long-term savings from paying off a mortgage and capital gains on your own property, can outweigh the short-term benefits of affordability,” he said.

“Also, because there is a strong market of renters out there, now could be a good time for those looking to get onto the property investment ladder to get their foot on the first rung.”

The data shows that there are just two cities where it is more affordable to buy a property compared to renting one. In Darwin, paying off a loan on a median value unit costs on average $101.08 per month less than renting (-4.78%), while in Hobart an owner could expect to pay $10 per month less (-0.82%).

Mr Edwards commented: “The increasing activity of investors has been a feature of the market for a number of years and can be traced back to the start of significant affordability issues for home owners. It’s also expected that investors will be ramping up their presence in the market.

“Overall, the general indicators suggest that Australia is moving to a situation where a large number of families are going to be renters unless something occurs that diminishes housing costs. Renting in capital cities looks as though it will be the natural outcome for young working families in these areas.”
